What does this world-changing new Economy look like? Part 1

Okay, I haven’t even started to write this and I already have a huge feeling of naivety. So many of us, including me, have coined this pandemic as being THE catalyst to firing us into a new, more sustainable era of humanity. Sure, the water is clearer, wildlife is spreading into the cities and air pollution is falling away; but what happens as soon as this pandemic dissipates? Do we truly believe that humanity won’t just fall back into the same behavioural patterns shown before global lock-down?

The transition to a change (or mitigation) has the same importance and value (if not more) than the destination.

I think it’s important to be pragmatic. To not just expect every government to suddenly U-Turn on their policies and corporations to delete their carbon footprint overnight. I know that sounds like a pessimistic viewpoint and but it doesn’t have to be. I hate the phrase “being realistic”, it stinks of patronisation and arrogance. It also kills all hope and imagination. However, society clings on to what they’re used to. Trust me, you wouldn’t even believe how difficult it is to convince some companies to make even a small change, despite laying out a simple plan and the huge upside on the table. They don’t want to know because they’re married to their traditional business norms; which I understand, but they’re not…
